Utah Jazz Travel Guide: Delta Center

How to Get There

  • Flying In: You will fly into Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). It is a massive, highly efficient global hub for Delta Air Lines, and is also heavily serviced by major domestic carriers like Southwest and American Airlines, making direct flights incredibly easy to find.

  • Airport Transit: The airport is located just a few miles west of the city center. You can take the TRAX Green Line light rail directly from the airport terminal into downtown for just a few dollars, or grab a rideshare that will drop you at your hotel in roughly 15 minutes.

Where to Stay

Delta Center is perfectly situated in downtown Salt Lake City, directly adjacent to The Gateway entertainment district. Staying anywhere in the downtown footprint provides elite, traffic-free walkability to the arena, massive shopping centers, and local breweries.

Budget/Mid-Range Options

  • Hyatt Place Salt Lake City/Downtown / The Gateway: You cannot get much closer than this. Located immediately next to the arena footprint in The Gateway, this highly reliable option includes a free hot breakfast and typically runs between 8,000 to 12,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

  • Courtyard Salt Lake City Downtown: Situated practically across the street from the arena, this modern property is a major hub for visiting fans. It places you perfectly in the pregame action, with redemptions usually ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Higher-End Options

  • Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City: Located just a few blocks east, this towering, recently built luxury hotel is attached to the Salt Palace Convention Center. It features a stunning rooftop pool deck, an excellent Spanish restaurant (Mar Muntanya), and sweeping views of the Wasatch Mountains. Expect redemptions around 12,000 to 18,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

  • The Grand America Hotel: If you want the ultimate luxury weekend in Salt Lake City, this iconic 5-star property is the absolute pinnacle. Located slightly further south downtown, it offers massive rooms, European-style opulence, and legendary service. This is an independent luxury property, so standard hotel points do not apply here.

Nearby Activities

  • Temple Square: Located just a few blocks from the arena, this 10-acre complex is the historic and geographic center of the city. The architecture is stunning, and it is a beautiful area to walk through during the day.

  • City Creek Center: Situated right across from Temple Square, this massive, upscale open-air shopping center features a retractable glass roof and a fully functional creek running directly through the middle of the walkways.

Pregame Food and Drink

  • Crown Burgers: Located a very short walk from the arena, this is an absolute Salt Lake City staple. It is an unassuming, old-school counter-service joint famous for the "Crown Burger," which is heavily piled with hot pastrami. It is a mandatory pregame meal for Jazz fans.

  • Squatters Pub Brewery: Situated right in the downtown core, this highly popular local brewery features an extensive craft beer list and excellent pub food. It is spacious, loud, and perfect for a group before heading to the gates.

  • Bout Time Pub & Grub: Located directly in The Gateway complex next to Delta Center, this high-energy sports bar gets completely packed with jerseys. It features dozens of screens and a fantastic patio atmosphere for grabbing a quick drink right by the arena.

Getting to the Event

  • Walking: If you secure a hotel anywhere in the downtown footprint, walking is the easiest and most reliable option. The streets in Salt Lake City are famously wide, heavily illuminated, and very safe.

  • TRAX (Light Rail): Downtown Salt Lake City features a Free Fare Zone for buses and TRAX trains. If you are staying slightly further away in the downtown area, you can ride the Blue or Green line directly to the Arena Station, which drops you right at the front doors of Delta Center for free.

  • Driving: If you choose to drive from the suburbs, you will want to utilize the Park Place surface lot directly across from the arena, or one of the massive parking garages located inside City Creek Center or The Gateway.

Where to Sit at Delta Center

  • The Jazz Bench: The home team sits in front of Section 6.

  • Away Fans: If you are traveling to support the visiting team, you want to target Section 8, which sits directly behind the visitor's bench.

  • The Premium Club Experience: The Lexus Club and Toyota Club offer an excellent VIP setup. Located directly behind the lower bowl sidelines, these spaces provide access to exclusive, less-crowded concourses, upscale culinary options, and private lounges.

  • The Sweet Spot: To get great lower-bowl energy without the massive center-court premium club prices, look at the corner sections, specifically Sections 3, 11, 14, or 22.

  • The Budget Seats: Delta Center utilizes a unique numbering system where the lower bowl is single/double digits and the upper deck is the 100-level. The upper deck is incredibly steep, creating a very loud and intimate environment. For the best center-court views, aim for the lower rows of Sections 111-113 or 131-133.
