San Antonio Spurs Travel Guide: Frost Bank Center

How to Get There

  • Getting to Town: San Antonio is an easy drive down I-10 from Houston or I-35 from Austin, making a road trip highly efficient. If you choose to fly, you will use San Antonio International Airport (SAT), which is well-serviced by major domestic carriers like Southwest, American, Delta, and United.

  • Airport Transit: If you are flying in, grabbing a rideshare (Uber or Lyft) is the most efficient way to reach the city center. The drive straight down US-281 typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes and drops you right at the downtown hotels.

Where to Stay

Frost Bank Center is located on the East Side of San Antonio, about 3 miles from the downtown core. Because the immediate arena footprint is largely residential and industrial, staying downtown along the famous River Walk or near the Pearl District is highly recommended. It gives you the best access to dining, nightlife, and historic sites.

Budget/Mid-Range Options

  • Drury Plaza Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk: Located right on the River Walk, this is one of the highest-rated hotels in the city for value. It occupies a beautifully renovated historic bank building and includes a free hot breakfast and complimentary evening drinks and snacks.

  • Courtyard San Antonio Riverwalk: Situated right on the water, this reliable property puts you in the middle of the action with easy access to the Alamo and Hemisfair Park. Redemptions usually range from 30,000 to 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Higher-End Options

  • Thompson San Antonio - Riverwalk: This stunning luxury boutique hotel sits just north of the main River Walk loop, offering a chic, modern atmosphere. It features an incredible rooftop lounge (The Moon's Daughter) and exceptional dining. Expect redemptions to hover around 20,000 to 25,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

  • The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Antonio: Overlooking Travis Park, this historic, 5-star hotel has hosted presidents and celebrities for over a century. It offers unmatched old-school Texas opulence, a fantastic lobby bar, and usually requires 40,000 to 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Nearby Activities

  • The Alamo & River Walk: You cannot visit San Antonio without walking the historic grounds of the Alamo and taking a boat tour or a stroll along the Paseo del Rio (River Walk). Both are easily accessible from any downtown hotel.

  • Historic Pearl: Located just north of downtown, this massive 22-acre former brewery complex has been transformed into a vibrant culinary and cultural district. It is packed with some of the best restaurants, bakeries, and boutiques in Texas.

Pregame Food and Drink

  • Smoke BBQ+SKYBAR: Located just east of downtown (making it a perfect halfway point on your way to the arena), this massive multi-level venue features fantastic Texas barbecue, outdoor seating, and a lively pregame atmosphere.

  • Cherrity Bar: Situated near the Alamodome, this socially conscious bar offers incredible craft cocktails and fantastic ramen. It is a great, relaxed spot to grab a drink before heading further east to the game.

  • Agave Club (Inside the Arena): Because the immediate area around Frost Bank Center lacks major sports bars, many fans choose to eat at the arena. The Agave Club on the Terrace Level offers a modern dining experience with excellent food and drinks (reservations recommended).

Getting to the Event

  • Rideshare: Taking an Uber or Lyft from your downtown hotel is the most popular and straightforward option. There are designated drop-off and pick-up zones located right near the main entrances of Frost Bank Center.

  • VIA Park & Ride: For major games, San Antonio's VIA Metropolitan Transit often operates shuttle services from central hubs directly to the arena, providing a cheap public transit alternative.

  • Driving: If you drive to the event, the arena is easily accessible from I-35 or I-10 and is surrounded by massive surface parking lots. Pre-purchasing a parking pass is highly recommended.

Where to Sit at Frost Bank Center

  • The Spurs Bench: The home team sits in front of Section 6.

  • Away Fans: If you are traveling to support the visiting team, you want to target Section 10, which sits directly behind the visitor's bench.

  • The Premium Club Experience: For upscale comfort, look for Courtside Boxes or Charter Level seating. These premium spots grant access to the exclusive Courtside Club, featuring all-inclusive food and beverage options, in-seat drink service, and private lounges.

  • The Sweet Spot: To get fantastic lower-bowl energy without paying center-court club prices, look at the lower-level corner sections, specifically Sections 105, 110, 120, or 125.

  • The Budget Seats: The 200-level (Balcony Level) provides the most affordable tickets. For the best balance of price and clear, center-court views, aim for the lower rows of Sections 208-209 or 225-226.
