Toronto Blue Jays Travel Guide: Rogers Centre
Getting to Toronto & The Ballpark
Flying In: Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the primary hub, heavily serviced by Air Canada, as well as American, Delta, and United. It is located about 16 miles from the stadium. Important Note: If you are traveling from the U.S., you must have a valid passport to enter Canada.
Airport Transit: Do not bother driving or paying for a long rideshare. The absolute best way to get to the city is the Union Pearson (UP) Express train. It runs directly from the airport terminal to Union Station downtown. It is incredibly clean, takes exactly 25 minutes, and drops you just a few blocks from Rogers Centre.
The Neighborhood: Rogers Centre is perfectly integrated into downtown Toronto, situated right between the Entertainment District and the waterfront. The area is highly walkable, packed with bars, and connected to the city's massive underground PATH system.
Where to Stay
Because the stadium is located right in the heart of downtown, you have incredible hotel options that are mere steps from the gates.
Budget Options
Residence Inn by Marriott Toronto Downtown/Entertainment District: Located just a short walk down Blue Jays Way, this extended-stay hotel is perfect for families or groups on a budget. Every room is a large suite featuring a full kitchen and a sofa bed. They offer a free daily hot breakfast and an indoor pool, making it a fantastic, spacious home base in the middle of the Entertainment District.
Hotel Victoria: Located slightly further away in the Financial District, this boutique hotel retains the historic 1909 architecture of its original building. It is a fantastic option if you are pairing a baseball trip with a Maple Leafs or Raptors game, as it is very close to Scotiabank Arena. The rooms are simple and sleek, perfect for travelers who plan to spend most of their time exploring the city.
Higher-End Options
Toronto Marriott City Centre Hotel: This hotel offers the absolute most unique lodging experience in Major League Baseball—it is physically built into Rogers Centre. You can book stadium-view rooms that look directly out onto the field. While these rooms are expensive, watching batting practice or the game from your own hotel bed is a bucket-list experience for any baseball fan.
Fairmont Royal York: Located directly across from Union Station, this elegant, historic hotel is one of the most luxurious stays in Toronto. It features a classic-style indoor pool, a full-service spa, and multiple high-end dining options. It is steps from the Hockey Hall of Fame and an easy, direct walk to the ballpark.
The Westin Harbour Castle, Toronto: Located right on the waterfront of Lake Ontario, less than a mile from the stadium. It features sweeping views of the harbor, a heated indoor pool, and an upscale Italian restaurant on the 38th floor. It is generally bookable for 40,000-50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.
Nearby Activities
The CN Tower: Located literally right next door to Rogers Centre, this 1,815-foot tower dominates the Toronto skyline. Ride the glass-floor elevators to the top for incredible panoramic views of the city and Lake Ontario before a night game.
The Hockey Hall of Fame: Located a short walk away near Union Station, this massive, interactive museum is an absolute must-visit for any sports fan traveling to Toronto, housing the legendary Stanley Cup.
Pregame Food and Drink
The area between Union Station and Rogers Centre is packed with pregame energy.
The Massive Sports Bar: Just south of Union Station is Real Sports Bar and Grill. It is a massive, premium sports bar serving high-end American/Canadian pub fare with a staggering drink selection and a two-story TV screen.
Quick & Close Bites: If you want great food right near the transit hub, hit up Union Chicken inside Union Station for excellent rotisserie and fried chicken. For a quick, casual meal just blocks north of the stadium, check out General Assembly Pizza.
The Bar Scene: The Loose Moose is the closest major bar to Rogers Centre and is the undisputed pregame headquarters for Blue Jays fans. It features a massive Canadian craft beer list and a raucous atmosphere. For a quieter, more upscale craft beer experience, head north to Bar Hop in the Entertainment District.
Getting to the Event
Public Transit: Toronto's public transit system (the TTC) is fantastic. If you are coming from further out, take the subway to Union Station. From there, you can take the "SkyWalk"—an enclosed walkway that connects the station directly to Rogers Centre and the CN Tower, which is a lifesaver if it is raining.
Parking: Driving is an option, but downtown parking is expensive. There is a main underground garage directly beneath the stadium, which is the most convenient (but priciest) option.
Where to Sit at Rogers Centre
The Best Views: Look for tickets in the 200-level Club seats (Sections 222-226) directly behind home plate. This level provides the absolute perfect viewing height to see the action on the field and the massive scoreboard.
The Hotel Restaurant View: Even if you aren't staying at the Marriott, you can make a reservation at their Sportsnet Grill (formerly Sightlines). The restaurant features massive glass windows looking right out onto the field.
Away Fans: If you are cheering for the visiting team, look for Sections 117-119 on the 100-level. These put you directly behind the visitor's dugout on the first-base side for an incredibly close look at the away team.
Family-Friendly: The Blue Jays offer several designated alcohol-free family sections (Sections 237, 238, 516, and 517). The 200-level options keep you closer to the action, while the 500-level sections are perfect for families on a tighter budget.
The Budget Seats: The 500-level offers the best cheap tickets. While they are high up, the steep angle of the upper deck means the front few rows still offer a fantastic, unobstructed vantage point of the field.
