San Francisco Giants Travel Guide: Oracle Park

Getting to San Francisco & The Ballpark

  • Flying In: You have two main options. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is a massive United hub located 14 miles south of the city. Oakland International Airport (OAK) is heavily serviced by Southwest and is located about 20 miles away across the bay. Neither airport is incredibly close to downtown, so base your decision on the best flight routes and prices.

  • Airport Transit: Do not rent a car or pay for an expensive, traffic-heavy rideshare. Both airports connect directly to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) train system, which will take you directly into downtown San Francisco for around $10.

  • The Neighborhood: Oracle Park is located in the South of Market (SoMa)/South Beach neighborhood, perched beautifully right on the edge of the San Francisco Bay. The area immediately surrounding the stadium is highly walkable, upscale, and packed with breweries and tech offices.

Where to Stay

Because San Francisco is a compact, transit-heavy city, you can stay directly next to the stadium for ultimate baseball convenience, or stay in a classic tourist hub like Union Square and take a quick train ride to the game.

Budget Options

  • Hyatt Place San Francisco/Downtown: Located just two blocks from Oracle Park, this sleek, modern hotel is the absolute best budget option for baseball fans. It features a free daily breakfast, a rooftop patio with city skyline views, and rooms with sofa beds for families. It is incredibly convenient to the stadium and the Caltrain station. It is a Category 5 property, generally bookable for around 20,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

  • Inn at Union Square, A Greystone Hotel: If you want to experience classic San Francisco sightseeing while keeping to a budget, this boutique hotel is perfect. It is located right in the heart of Union Square, just steps from the famous Powell Street cable car turnaround. It offers a free continental breakfast and an evening fireside wine and cheese social to help you save money in an incredibly expensive city.

Higher-End Options

  • Hotel VIA: This contemporary, independent luxury hotel sits directly across the street from Oracle Park. It is the ultimate stay for Giants fans. The crown jewel is the exclusive, guest-only Rooftop at VIA, featuring fire pits, cabanas, and panoramic views of the bay, the city skyline, and the ballpark. The hotel even partners with the Giants to offer VIP experiences, including on-field batting practice viewing.

  • Fairmont San Francisco: This grand, iconic hotel sits atop Nob Hill and offers sweeping views of the city and the bay. Built in 1907, it features a grand lobby, a high-end restaurant, and the famous, incredibly immersive Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar (a legendary tiki bar with an indoor lagoon). It is under two miles from the stadium and is perfect for luxury travelers wanting a historic San Francisco experience.

Nearby Activities

  • Walk the Embarcadero: Start at the iconic Ferry Building (grab lunch from one of the incredible artisan food vendors) and walk the scenic, waterfront Embarcadero path directly south until you hit the gates of Oracle Park.

  • Alcatraz Island: No trip to San Francisco is complete without a ferry ride out to the infamous island prison. Ferries depart from Pier 33, making it a fantastic morning excursion before an evening ballgame.

Pregame Food and Drink

The SoMa and South Beach neighborhoods surrounding Oracle Park are packed with fantastic pregame options, heavily focused on the local craft beer scene.

  • The Breweries: 21st Amendment Brewery is an absolute staple just two blocks from the stadium. It features a massive, lively space, great pub food, and fantastic IPAs. Right around the corner is Black Hammer Brewing, a modern warehouse brewery focused on socializing and tasting flights (they don't serve food, but you are welcome to bring in your own).

  • Waterfront Dining: Walk across the Lefty O'Doul Bridge to Atwater Tavern. Located right on the water, it offers a massive outdoor deck with views of the bay and fantastic California fare, making it the perfect spot for a scenic pregame meal.

  • Quick & Historic Bites: If you want a cheap, quick, old-school burger or hot dog, stop by Red’s Java House on Pier 30. For the ultimate dive-bar baseball history, take a rideshare slightly southwest to the Double Play Bar and Grill, an Italian-American joint absolutely packed with vintage baseball memorabilia.

Getting to the Event

  • Walking: If you are staying in the SoMa district or anywhere near the Embarcadero, walking to the game is the most scenic and enjoyable option.

  • Public Transit: San Francisco has incredible public transit. If you are coming from outside the city or further south, the Caltrain drops you at the San Francisco Station, just one block from the stadium. If you are staying in Union Square or downtown, hop on the Muni Metro (N or T lines), which stops directly in front of the ballpark.

  • Parking: Driving to Oracle Park is highly discouraged. Stadium parking is extremely limited, incredibly expensive, and navigating the gridlocked postgame traffic is a nightmare. Rely entirely on walking, Muni, or rideshare.

Where to Sit at Oracle Park

Oracle Park is universally considered one of the most beautiful and scenic stadiums in Major League Baseball, heavily utilizing its location right on the San Francisco Bay.

  • The Splash Landing Seats: For the ultimate Oracle Park experience, look for tickets in the lower rows of right field (Sections 148-149). These seats are elevated directly over the massive right-field brick wall, offering an incredible, unobstructed view looking down into McCovey Cove (where fans in kayaks wait for home run balls).

  • Away Fans: If you are cheering for the visiting team, look for Sections 108-109. These put you directly behind the visitor's dugout on the first-base side. Sections 105-106 are also fantastic, placing you right next to the visitor's bullpen (one of the few remaining bullpens located directly on the field dirt).

  • The Best Budget Views: Look for tickets in the 300-level (specifically Sections 318-321 on the third-base side). These upper-deck seats are highly affordable and offer the absolute best panoramic views of the field, the Bay Bridge, and the water beyond the right-field wall.

  • Family-Friendly: If you are bringing the kids, look at Sections 136-139 in left field. These bleacher seats are usually cheaper than the infield and place you right next to the massive, iconic Coca-Cola bottle and giant baseball glove, which feature slides and a playground area for children.
