How to Get There
The main airport in Philadelphia is Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and is serviced mainly by American with a variety of flights from Southwest, Delta, and budget airline Frontier. It is just 6 miles from Citizens Bank Park with the drive mostly on highways so whether driving or taking Uber/Lyft the trip can be quick and easy. There are train and bus options but they are not direct so taking a car is the best option.
There are several train stations in the city with the main one being 30th Street Station in downtown Philly about 6 miles from the ballpark. It is serviced by local public transit and Amtrak trains nearby. Philadelphia is just 95 miles from New York City, so it is a great city to pair with a trip to visit one or both of the teams in New York, and there are many buses and trains connecting the two cities.
Where to Stay
Budget Options
Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia South at The Navy Yard - The Courtyard Marriott is the perfect hotel for fans there primarily for the game due to its location, especially if looking to catch an Eagles, 76ers, or Flyers game as well. It is the only hotel in the Navy Yard area near the stadium, making it the prime option for sports fans looking for convenience, though that can mean higher prices for a simple hotel when a big game is in town. Higher prices can be justified for the prime location, and guests can avoid paying inflated prices by redeeming a room for 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. In addition to walking distance from all three stadiums, the hotel is well-located near many shops, food trucks, and waterfront restaurants at the Navy Yard, as well as featuring their own lobby restaurant and bar with an outdoor patio with a fire pit overlooking the Navy Yard. Rooms are spacious, clean, and simple and many have sofa bed options for groups and families traveling together. Suites are offered as well that give guests more space and a full living/sitting area. The Courtyard is ideal for sports fans who want to stay near the action for an exciting sports weekend while still being in a nice, unique setting, while having attractions in downtown Philadelphia reasonably accessible.
Hampton Inn Philadelphia Center City-Convention Center - The Hampton Inn is a great budget hotel located right in the heart of downtown Philly. The hotel is within walking distance to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall and less than two miles from the Philadelphia Museum of Art featuring the famous Rocky steps. There are numerous restaurants and activities within walking distance, as well as the restaurant and bar in the hotel's lobby that is prime for budget travelers serving a complimentary daily hot breakfast. Room selection is limited but rooms are clean and comfortable with a king bed or two queens, and the options are the standard room, a premium room with drinks and snacks, and a suite with a living room that includes a sofa bed that is perfect for families. The hotel is 7 miles from the ballpark but it is a quick, direct drive on freeways or about a half hour on public transportation. The Hampton Inn is perfect for guests who want to spend their time exploring the city from a central location, and do not need a large number of amenities, just a comfy bed to come back to at night at a fair price.
Higher-End Options
The Ritz Carlton, Philadelphia - The Ritz in Philly delivers on the elegance expected from the brand, with this hotel being unique in its mixture of luxury and history with its setting in a 1908 bank building. The classic design and large art collection give the hotel a classy feel while recent renovations in the rooms and lobby look to maximize comfort. Sophisticated rooms are comfortable and spacious and feature views of the city skyline or City Hall, marble bathrooms with rainfall showers and bathrobes, large ceilings, and plush bedding. There is a club lounge on the 30th floor of the hotel that guests booking any rooms are able to upgrade to. The high-end lobby restaurant is set in a beautiful, grand setting and serves Latin cuisine, a raw bar and a mezcal menu. Other amenities include a full service spa and a large fitness center. The hotel is just 3.5 miles from the ballpark making it an easy drive or rideshare to get to a game. Like most Ritz Carlton properties it can be expensive, but it delivers with the hotel's luxury, and it can be booked for a decent deal with Marriott Bonvoy points at 50,000 points per night. The Ritz is a great hotel for anyone looking to experience the finest stay possible in a unique and historic setting, while being in a convenient location in the center of the city.
Kimpton Hotel Palomar Philadelphia - The Kimpton is a stylish, sophisticated hotel set in a popular area that is great for people who love activity and socializing, and it offers guests a high-end stay for a more reasonable price than the Ritz. The hotel is great for guests who want to be active and see the city, with free bike rentals to take around the city, in-room yoga mats, and in-room spa services for those who want to relax after a long day sightseeing. There are several specialty suites highlighted by the spacious spa suite including a Fuji soaking tub. The on site restaurant serves New American cuisine with all three meals and is a popular gathering place in the area of the city. The restaurant offers weekend brunch specials as well as an excellent bar program. The hotel is about 4 miles from the ballpark making it an easy drive or even ride from one of the rental bikes. The Kimpton is perfect for guests who want a higher-end stay in a popular area with a convenient way to socialize and see the city.
Nearby Activities
Pregame Food and Drink
When going to a Phillies game, if you want to have plenty of places to eat and drink in an exciting atmosphere either before or after games, Xfinity Live! is the place to be. It is a massive entertainment complex with several restaurants and bars and also features an outdoor concert stage with a 24 foot screen showing big sporting events. There is truly something for everyone, but fans looking for a quick bite have two main options. Lorenzo and Sons Pizza is a pizza joint specializing in large slices and 28" pizzas - great for sharing with a large group, and Geno's Steaks serves classic Philly Cheesesteaks and has been serving them since 1966. Sports fans going to a Phillies game have to stop at NBC Sports Arena. It is a one-of-a-kind sports viewing experience with a massive 32-foot diagonal LED HD television and promotions throughout big games. They have a wide variety of bar food from nachos to poke tacos, and the large beer list plus lively atmosphere makes this an excellent pre or post game stop. Fans wanting to go to a bar in a more laid-back atmosphere should visit 1100 Social with a large outdoor patio filled with TVs and a few fire pits. The bar serves elevated bar food and a signature cocktail menu for a more upscale bar experience.
If you want something quicker and easier and are looking to avoid the crowds at Xfinity Live, there are a couple good nearby options. Talk of the Town Cheesesteaks is a steak and shake grab-and-go restaurant just a few blocks north of the stadium. It serves classic philly cheesesteaks which are a must when in the city, and is perfect for fans looking to get a quick, cheap bite on the way to the game. Chickie's and Pete's is a popular local American restaurant and sports bar right across from Talk of the Town. They have a classic American bar menu highlighted by their world famous crab fries. It is a good place for fans who want to sit down and eat while watching sports and having a few beers before catching a ballgame.
Getting to the Event
The location of the ballpark in the southern part of the city makes it pretty inaccessible by foot unless staying at the Courtyard Marriott. Thankfully there are plenty of options for driving, rideshare, or public transportation, and the stadium is just a few miles away so although it is not walkable it is pretty easy to get to from popular areas. There are two other stadiums in there area, so there are plenty of parking options nearby especially if baseball is the only event at the time. Fans driving and hoping to save some money can look for street parking which is mostly prevalent east of the ballpark.
Fans looking to get to a game via public transportation should hop on one of the SETPA trains with stops throughout the city. Fans taking the metro should get off at NRG station which is only about a block from the ballpark. Philadelphia is a pretty car-friendly city, so rideshare is prevalent and always a great option though it may not be the cheapest.
Where to Sit
Visiting fans should sit in sections 119-121 behind the visiting sideline, and rows 22 and higher offer the best views and are also a bit cheaper, with the last 5 rows in each section under cover. A unique option at Lincoln Financial Field are the sections around the 20 yard lines (ex. 123-124) that are angled toward the field, giving them an excellent view and these sections are actually a bit closer to the field than the midfield sections. Eagles fans are not known to be the friendliest to opposing fans, so it is best to sit on the visiting side on whatever level to hopefully be surrounded by fellow opposing fans. The club level offers strong amenities with upscale dining, a private entrance, and large padded seats as well as excellent elevation and close proximity to the field for the upper deck. Sections C21-C22 are some of the best seats in the stadium with an ideal view similar to the TV angle, and these sections are well-angled too making sections C18 on the 20 yard line and C15 in the corner still great options. Rows 1-5 in each of these sections are going to give the best views. Families traveling to the game should sit in section 217 which is the designated family section where no alcohol is allowed and it is in the upper level corner so tickets in this sections are some of the cheapest in the stadium. Upper deck seats have good views for a football stadium, with sections 223-227 near midfield offering some of the best. Tunnels are located at row 4, so the first 4 rows avoid fan obstruction and offer excellent views just above the club level, while fans focused more on price and comfort should sit in rows 15 and higher which are cheaper and covered.
